Risk Assesment

I believe the choices I'd made in the magazine were relatively risk-free, however due to the design I'd gone with there are a few risks. 1. The simplicity of the design, the modern theme of the magazine has a few setbacks: starting with the simplicity of it. Due to the magazine having block colours, it's a simplistic design. Although it does stand out, some of the target audience may find it 'boring'. 2. The target audience. Due to the target audience being roughly 11-18 (student age) i believe this could cause some issues in sales. For one it could impact the sales in general as teenagers nowadays get most of their information via social media & even if people outside our target audience were to buy it, people in older generations are slowly starting to use mobile phones & will eventually stop using magazines / newspapers for sources of information. Hence I believe it would be suitable to advertise school magazines online or via their social media, so we ...

Reflection: What went well & what i could do to improve

Overall, I was relatively pleased with how the magazine came out. I feel as if I stuck to my draft design throughout which I was also happy with. The only downside with the design is that it's quite plain & looks rushed, despite it not being rushed. Another flaw I've noticed is the picture choice, however due to technical difficulties with using airdrop, messages etc. I was not able to get all the images we took. However, despite the issues I believe I did an alright job with the magazine overall & I stuck to the modern theme I had intended.

Justification of the magazine

In the magazine itself, I decided to go with a more modern approach. This is for two reasons, 1. Since its a a school magazine, the target audience is young adults. Hence why i decided to go with that. 2. The Thirsk logo colours stand out as they're bright, mixed with the modern theme of the magazine and a unique layout, the magazine would be difficult to miss. The Thirsk values are another feature I used because again this is a school magazine, and by adding the values that are expected of the students in school will again remind them what is expected whilst on the premises. Linking this back to font research, I used Arial Italics of the values as it fits in with the modern theme of the magazine compared to using fonts like typewriter, comic sans, etc. Arial as a font itself works well in this magazine as its large, so the magazine would be difficult to miss. The main headline I feel also works well with the whole vibe of the magazine, because it targets both the year 11's and...

Font Research

Font research:   On the magazine itself, I used Arial Italics & Arial Bold. The reason for this is because I believe they are particularly eye catching and familiar compared to other fonts such as comic sans. Another reason is because the Arial font itself it’s particularly modern compared to a typical typewriter font you would see in a magazine or a newspaper like The Sun or The Daily Mail. The Arial italics in particular I liked because after using a bold font for a title it attracts the reader because the font is smaller, too small to glance at like a title but not too small to read. Hence why using a catchy title in bold is important so it gathers an audience. Furthermore, The reason why I didn’t use other fonts like Calligraphy, typewriter and block capitals is because I wanted a modern feel whilst keeping it professional. Calligraphy gives a more artistic vibe to the magazine & that was not the look I was going for. Typewriter fonts give an old impression to th...
